The Environment Protection Act states that indoor air quality is on of the top 5 environmental risks to public health!
The chemicals that are used for cleaning offices has been measured at 5 billion pounds... every year! These chemicals are contributing to air and water pollution.
The average person spends 90% of their time indoors. Indoor air has 2-5 times the level of contaminants as outdoor air. People exposed to these contaminants experience headaches, eye irritations, coughs, dry or itchy skin, nose and throat irritation, dizziness, nausia, fatigue, fragrance allergies and difficulty in concentrating.
It's not only the chemicals themselves, it's the procedure with which the cleaning is done. This can make as much of a difference as the products used. HEPA filtered vacuums, damp dusting and walk-off mats are some of the ways cleaning can be more efficient and healthy. Proper cleaner procedures also contribute to the reduction in exposure to chemicals.
Some of the advantages of "Going Green" include:
- Reduced liability exposure
- Improved productivity/performance
- Improved morale and "quality of life"
- Environmental responsability
